8th Regional Seminar on Energy Efficiency in Buildings Held in Istanbul
The 8th edition of the “Regional Training Programs on Energy Efficiency in Buildings,” organized in cooperation with the General Directorate of Professional Services of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and İZODER, was held on May 14 at Elite World Grand İstanbul Küçükyalı Hotel with broad participation. As Bonus Insulation, we were pleased to take part in this important event, which focused on improving energy efficiency, promoting current building standards, and encouraging high-quality insulation practices.The program brought together approximately 600 participants from Istanbul and surrounding provinces, including representatives of public institutions, professional chambers, building inspection organizations, material manufacturers, project designers, engineers and architects. The seminar provided an important platform for strengthening cooperation between public, private and technical stakeholders and supporting the implementation of energy-efficient building practices.
One of the main topics of the seminar was the TS 825:2024 Thermal Insulation Requirements for Buildings Standard, which became mandatory as of April 1, 2025. The new standard requires buildings to be designed by considering both heating and cooling energy demands, reflecting changing climatic conditions, rising energy costs and sustainability targets.
Minimum insulation thicknesses for Istanbul and surrounding areas in the 3rd climate zone have also been revised. External wall insulation thicknesses have increased from 5–6 cm to 8–9 cm, roof insulation from 8–10 cm to 11–14 cm, and floor insulation from 5 cm to 9 cm. These changes further strengthen the role of the building envelope in improving energy performance and long-term comfort.
The program also covered nearly zero-energy buildings, Energy Performance Certificates and Green Building Certification, emphasizing the strategic role of energy efficiency in reducing carbon emissions, improving quality of life and supporting climate goals.
