Insulation Enhancing the Quality of Life in Living Spaces Holds Equivalent Importance to Sustainability as It Does to Life

Could you provide an overview of the general structure of your brand/company?
Since 2001, Bonus Insulation, a 100% domestically funded Turkish brand under Eryap Group, has been operating as the only one of its kind in the sector. It offers high-standard products in water, thermal, sound, and fire insulation, addressing essential aspects such as economic value of building stock, building safety, earthquake resistance, energy savings, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, human health, and living comfort and quality.

Beyond our domestic market leadership, we aim to increase our export ratio from 40% to 50%, expand our international brand identity in Europe and other markets, and enter new markets. Our production takes place in three facilities in Gaziantep, Sakarya, and Istanbul, covering more than 150,000 m² and directly employing approximately 450 people.

Could you share information about your recently developed brands, new products, or services within Fire-Resistant Products and Fire Prevention Systems?
Fire insulation is critical not only in residential and service buildings but also in industrial facilities, where it must be carefully implemented. In industrial plants where a significant portion of Turkey’s workforce operates and which generate a substantial share of the national income, fire insulation is crucial for both occupational health and safety (OHS) and preventing financial losses. Fire insulation helps limit the spread of fire, particularly in industrial zones, buying time for safe evacuation and fire intervention. Active fire protection systems in industrial facilities must be supported by fire insulation.

Produced at our Hendek Sakarya plant, the most advanced facility in our sector, our Bonus Stone Wool products are widely used for fire, thermal, and sound insulation in buildings and industrial facilities. With an A1 fire resistance rating, these products contribute significantly to fire safety.

Which of your products or services are in high demand and making an impact in the industry?
Our Bonus Stone Wool products are widely used across Turkey in various industries, including fertilizer, automotive, cement, cargo, logistics, thermal, and geothermal plants. Our Bonus Premium R Stone Wool product, with high density and rare compressive strength, is ideal for use on sloped, walkable or non-walkable roofs in industrial facilities. Given the growing investment in Solar Power Plants (SPP) on roofs, it is crucial to use insulation materials with high compressive and fire resistance.

Another product, Bonus Stone Wool INDUSTRIAL MW, is a stone wool blanket designed for insulation applications in industrial facilities. It provides thermal, sound, and fire insulation for all industrial facilities and production elements like boilers, pipelines, exhaust pipes, electrostatic filters, ducts, steel constructions, double-walled containers, and kilns. This product helps prevent the spread of fire, protects equipment from heat damage, and absorbs unavoidable vibrations in industrial facilities with its high flexibility. It is also used in boilers, transfer pipelines, and chimneys at thermal and geothermal plants to provide thermal insulation and reduce energy loss.

Our Bonus Stone Wool Panel product, known for its easy and rapid application, greatly accelerates construction processes and shortens project completion times. With its high-performance thermal, sound, and fire insulation features, it is an ideal solution for roof, facade, and seam cladding systems in industrial structures.

Could you elaborate on the added value and customer satisfaction your products provide?
Our Bonus Stone Wool products, which can maintain structural integrity at temperatures up to 1,000°C, enhance fire safety and improve energy efficiency. Meeting three basic needs—thermal, fire, and sound insulation—through a single product highlights the advanced technology and superior performance of stone wool.
In addition to our product quality, we prioritize contributing to our customers' processes. At the beginning of 2024, we launched our Stretch-Hood packaging investment in our stone wool facilities, reflecting our commitment to quality. This new system provides greater protection and extends the product’s usage life in dealer warehouses and construction sites, adding more value to our ecosystem.

Could you discuss the extensive budgets you allocate to the development of your industry and your labor-intensive R&D efforts?
We continuously conduct product and process-focused R&D to meet all our customers' insulation needs, delivering added-value products that fulfill their expectations and contribute to their businesses. Alongside the Bonus Stone Wool family, which offers high-quality solutions for fire and thermal insulation, we also produce leading products in other types of insulation.

Can you briefly introduce your upcoming new products or service models?
Our Bonus Proof Membrane products represent the latest global standards in waterproofing technology, showcasing our strength in developing added-value products. Another innovation is our thermoplastic Bonus XPS thermal insulation boards, which feature a homogeneous cell structure with a compressive strength of 1,000 kPa—a first in Turkey. This product showcases our technological capabilities, advanced extrusion technology, and fully automated production processes.

In addition to these innovations, we are enhancing our infrastructure and data security technologies, updating and developing our ERP and CRM systems, and our dealer portal. This ensures we stay ahead in the competitive landscape while offering faster and more efficient services to our customers.

What are your thoughts on the Fire Regulations in Turkey?
Turkey’s fire regulations are as robust as other building safety regulations created by public authorities in our country. These regulations reflect not only universal standards but also the painful societal experiences that have shaped the awareness and responsibility of public administration. However, the primary point of focus should be on ensuring strict compliance with these regulations and securing this through competent inspections.

Considering the environmental impacts of your product manufacturing processes, could you share your views on Sustainability Focus and Corporate Carbon Footprint?
Insulation, which reduces the environmental footprint of human life in buildings, contributes to the economy and enhances the quality of social and individual lives in living spaces, holding equal importance to sustainability as it does to life.

As Bonus Insulation, we conduct all our investments and activities with a holistic perspective under our sustainability strategy. Our production facilities coordinate the use of renewable, clean energy and environmentally friendly gases, dust-free manufacturing, and zero-waste applications to minimize the environmental impact of our operations. Additionally, we reduce the environmental footprint of human life in buildings with our eco-friendly products and add value to the quality of life in living spaces. At our stone wool production facilities, we have achieved completely dust-free manufacturing, eliminated waste, and created a more comfortable working environment.
Under our sustainability-focused investments, our GES projects across all our production facilities now use a total of 10MW of renewable, clean energy. We have also made significant progress in energy savings and reduced energy consumption per unit of product.

Today, the concept of Sustainability has become a core determinant of global value, supply and finance chains, and the ways businesses operate and trade.
Fire insulation helps mitigate risks to human life and the economy, thermal insulation promotes energy savings and reduces carbon emissions, waterproofing contributes to the creation of a safe and long-lasting building stock, and sound insulation eliminates the negative impacts of noise pollution on human health. Insulation, with its four core components, holds life-equivalent importance in the sustainability concept encompassing Human, Environment, and Economy.

Is there any message or announcement you would like to share with us as a concluding note to this interview?
As of 2023, the insulation sector’s economic size, including all services, reaches nearly $7 billion, with production-to-sales reaching $2 billion. Our industry, with a value chain reaching 3.5 times its own size, makes significant contributions to the national economy, providing employment for approximately 150,000 people and advancing towards becoming a global production center with its recent export momentum.

As in all industries, the success of insulation hinges on preventing substandard manufacturing and ensuring compliance with standards through the use of certified products and proper applications. Although Turkey has strong regulations in this field, complete adherence to these regulations and the appropriate inspections conducted by competent personnel are vital. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is through increased public awareness.

With our Bonus Insulation brand and as a member of IZODER (Association of Thermal, Water, Sound, and Fire Insulation), along with other industry NGOs, we continue our awareness and training efforts to raise public awareness.
